RBF Rice

urbandictionary: RBF: resting bitch face

Marti’s kitchen: RBF: Raisin Brusselsprout Fried (Rice)

Um… it just kinda worked out.

Slapped it together after looking in the fridge to find I had one vegetable, led to me pondering something that led to something that led to raisins, and cinnamon goes with raisins, and I also happen to love fried rice, so let’s see if we can make somethin’ tasty out this mf.

And here we are.

The title just fell in my lap.

And now you have RBF rice, your face will not be affected, you will most likely smile with joy because it’s a nice flavor profile with ingredients you never imagined to put together, and surprisingly they go well together. You think you’ll start cooking more. You forgot how fun cooking can be, but everything starts out fun and then it’s not because it ends or some other disaster happens and you can’t eat and all there is is anxiety plaguing your mind and… sorry.

That’s when mama’s gotta put her RBF on and mean mug those punk ass thoughts.

And eat something.

Ingredients:

  • 2-3 cups jasmine rice, cooked and cooled

    Sauce:
  • 3-4 tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 tsp white balsamic ginger vinegar, or honey, or a flavorful sweetness you have on hand
  • 1-2 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1/8 tsp (or more) cinnamon
  • 2-3 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 tsp honey, sub with vegan sweetener if heart desires

    Brussel & Onion stirfry:
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 onion, skinny slices
  • 1.5 cup brussel sprouts… maybe like 12?, halved lengthwise, skinny slices
  • Salt
  • some scoops of sauce

    Impossible Patty stirfry:
  • sesame oil
  • 1 impossible patty
  • some scoops of sauce

    Fried Rice:
  • sesame oil
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/2 jalapeno, minced
  • 2 eggs, omit for vegan
  • 1/2 cup raisins
  • remainder of sauce

    Garnish:
  • cilantro
  • green onions
  • sesame seeds

Instructions:

  1. Put all sauce ingredients in a small bowl, mix until combined, set aside.
  2. Heat oil in large pan, medium heat, add onions and some salt to caramelize for 7-10 min, until softened and browning.
  3. Add sliced brussel sprouts, cook five min with less movement, mix and leave it another 5 min, you wanna cook until they are softened and beyond the bright green they give off, between 10-15. Splash a few scoops of sauce in between there, until it’s cooked off and things start to smell real good. Don’t forget to taste. Set those veggies aside in a bowl, you’re gonna cook the patty now.
  4. Sesame oil, low-medium heat, throw in the frozen patty, 4 min each side, after flipping once, scoop some sauce on top of patty, let brown and then chop up into bits.
  5. Scoop out or push to one side of pan, add some more oil, fry the garlic and jalapeño for a few, to soften and start smelling.
  6. Time for eggs. I cracked both in, stirring in the pan and then I flattened them in another corner. I kept the garlic and jalapeño in one spot, meat in another, and eggs in another.
  7. Throw the rice on top of veggies, meat, and eggs. Spread it out to let the rice acclimate idk. Pour the rest of the sauce on top, I left it like this a few minutes. Once it’s more warm you can mix it all up easier. Add in the brussels and onions. Mix and then add raisins and mix.
  8. We’ve reached the end, turn off the heat when it’s time, top with green onions, cilantro, and sesame seeds and give it a try.
